When I was in grade school, I was asked to write about what I wanted to be when I grew up. I had a list of three professions – teacher, actress, and artist, but “not the starving kind.” I was the child who slept with a box of crayons alongside my giant blue stuffed elephant each night. The smell of new Crayola’s was the greatest scent in the world to me. I lived and breathed art. I took classes in drawing, printmaking, papermaking, painting, stained glass and photography.
I chose Advertising as a way to be in a creative field, but hopefully have some food in the fridge. I graduated from Indiana University (Bloomington) with a bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications and minors in French and Business. After graduation in 1992, I began working at an agency on Michigan Avenue. Eventually, I was at a major in-house agency handling media placements. After nearly ten years in the industry, I left advertising to stay home with my new daughter and start a custom handmade card business. Bliss was born.
I followed my bliss. I feel such happiness knowing that over the past eight years, my clients have given me a chance to be a part of their weddings, parties, and births of their children. Since 2006, I have been an artist in the One-of-A-Kind Show and Sale at the Merchandise Mart, where I feature the newest line of handmade albums, books and correspondence lines. In addition, I have participated in various art shows around Chicago. I have come a long way from that grade schooler with cat eye glasses and braces, and yet she never really left me.
